Tackling disabling autoimmune disease with obstinance and humor.
I’m afraid the old adage is true, you are what you eat. Eat a healthy, well balanced diet full of nutrients to fuel your body and your body will be healthy. Eat the standard American diet (SAD) loaded with processed junk and empty calories and your body will be junk! Healthy bodies require healthy fuel to be that way. This goes double for anyone with an autoimmune disease like rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Figuring out what your body needs to be healthy can, however be a tricky process. What works great for one person often does little for another. Food sensitivities vary from person to person. Finding the right diet is often a process of trial and error. For a better understanding of diet, how autoimmune bodies use nutrients, and some information about the most common diets rheumatoid arthritis patients report as being helpful, check out Autoimmune Diets.
Taking some time to figure out what increases the inflammation in your body can be a big help in living well with rheumatoid arthritis. Anything that reduces the flames is a win as that helps slow damage and reduce pain. Cutting down on common inflammatory foods and adding some anti-inflammatory foods to your diet is a great place to start. Tracking symptoms along with what you are doing differently can help you spot patterns. A symptom journal can also be a valuable tool for sharing your symptoms with your medical team.
